Luke Cornish is Australia’s most celebrated stencil artist, recognized for his mastery of street art technique and poignant explorations of social and political issues.

A three-time Archibald Prize finalist, Cornish began his journey as a blue-collar worker, experimenting with stencil techniques that evolved into a mature fine art practice. His handmade stencils reveal a raw honesty, deep empathy for human suffering and critical perspectives on modern culture. Since 2010, Cornish has held over 20 exhibitions and featured in numerous art prizes, with his work displayed across Australia and in major cultural centres such as Paris, London, Rome, Los Angeles, and Amsterdam.

Luke Cornish is a widely recognized artist with numerous awards and accolades. He won the 2024 Gallipoli Art Prize and has been a finalist in major prizes, including the Archibald Prize (2012, 2019, 2023), the Sulman Prize (2013), the Gallipoli Art Prize (2023), and the Kennedy Prize (2019). His work has been featured in Salon des Refusés exhibitions at S.H. Ervine Gallery (2017, 2018, 2021), where he won the Holding Redlich People’s Choice Award in 2017. Other achievements include the 2020 Waverley Art Prize (Printmakers Prize), the 2010 Australian Stencil Art Prize (Winner), and acquisitions by institutions such as the National Gallery of Victoria, the Australian War Memorial, and the National Portrait Gallery. Cornish has also been a finalist in the Brisbane Art Prize, Deakin Small Sculpture Prize, Moreton Bay Regional Art Award, and Metro Art Prize, as well as a semi-finalist in the Moran Portrait Prize (2012) and shortlisted for Tropfest (2012). His works are part of notable collections, including the Corrigan Collection, Bond University Collection, and the Gold Coast Art Gallery.
